My Kind Of Senior Session

My last entry prompted me to give you a bit more insight into my approach to high school senior shoots.

In many cases a senior session is booked because students need a portrait for the upcoming school yearbook. All the students I work with have reasonably relaxed school photo requirements with no specific poses or backgrounds.  During the one hour session we devote half the time to head and shoulder portraits.  The rest of the session concentrates on more environmental or arty images.  The end result is a proof gallery which has a great variety of photographs.  The students and their families always love what they see, buy portraits and comment on what a great memory it makes. After all, finishing high school and moving on to college is an important milestone and worth capturing with photos!

Maybe you have no choice but to go with a assigned school photographer for a standard required yearbook portrait.  No problem.  You can still consider booking a separate session with me which reflects your style. Modern traditional, urban chic or country casual… lots of possibilities for fun, fresh photos.

Check out my senior gallery on my main website and contact me if you are interested in a session.

Policy Change – Minimum Print Orders

Starting September 2009 all full studio and outdoor sessions will require a minimum print order of $300. Clients are not required to pre purchase a print credit but no orders will be accepted unless they meet this requirement and proofs will be cancelled. We fully understand that there are families who would love to schedule a session and have a smaller budget to work with. For this reason we have have shorter sessions on offer and also run seasonal promotions.

Why the new policy?
The studio devotes a lot of time to the planning, photography and gallery preparation for full sessions. The range of images presented is aimed at giving the client choices for wall gallery arrangements, albums, storyboard designs as well as gift prints. When the intention is simply to choose a couple of desk prints a lot of work on the part of the studio is surplus to requirements and many lovely images are passed by.

How do I know if I want to purchase $300 plus of prints?
As part of considering a customized portrait session clients need to think about what type of prints and products they want. The purchase of two wall size prints and a selection of desk portraits will meet this ordering criteria. Many clients love their images and spend more than planned. Full sessions are best suited for those who are intending to display wall portraits or a wide selection of desk prints or planning albums. Jane will ask you what type of prints or products you are interested in when inquiries are made as a way of finding the session type that is right for you.

What if I only want to purchase a couple of desk prints as gifts?
Let us know the reason for you wanting some portraits and we will match the session to your needs. Mini shoots are ideal for specific themes or small orders. You can also request to go on our mailing list for future promotional short sessions.

“Kamp Owt” and Kung Fu Kicks

Last week we got one night with no rain (yay) and the kids camped out with Dad. Our 4 year old daughter wrote a sign for camp which read “Kamp Owt”. We thought that a pretty neat effort.  Even after working hard to pitch the tent she still had some energy for some high kicks.  They ate dinner at dark and did some star gazing.  The simple things are always the best! These images were a joint effort between Mike and I and were taken with the available light.  Happy Summer to family and friends in England. We are in ENVY of your glorious weather!

Fun Monday Mini Session In The Snow!

I really enjoyed my mini session in the snow yesterday. It was great meeting Mom and  four delightful children. Unfortunately I can’t share the lovely images from the session because it’s a suprise gift for someone special. I can keep a secret! The portrait gallery for this session will be ready by the end of the day, Wednesday.

Hello Again!

My phone has now been reconnected. The last remaining Holiday orders are either now with me or are just shipping from the lab. If you have received a message to pick up your order please contact me asap. Orders that are not collected before Christmas Eve will not be available for pick up until Monday December 29th.

OK I’m off to find my shovel. Got a lot of snow to clear!

North East Ice Storm-limited communication!

A huge ice storm which yesterday knocked out power has left me with limited communication. I do not currently have either a land or cell phone that is working. I do have internet access so for all inquiries regarding orders or sessions please contact me via email. Also someone from our family in England keeps calling. We keep trying to speak to you but with no luck!!! We’re all ok and the trees that fell down in our yard were well away from the cars and house!

Endeavour

I’ve been away in sunny Florida this week and will be busy returning emails and phone calls over the next couple of days for anyone who has contacted me. While I was there the Shuttle Endeavour was launched in a rare night launch (possibly the last ever!). Taking photos of it was a challenge as I had travelled light with just a small lens and no tripod, but I think these images catch the atmosphere of waiting on Cocoa Beach for the launch and the awe inspiring sight of it streaking into space.

Introducing the mini storyboard….

With Holiday time just around the corner people often book photo sessions with a view to giving prints as gifts. Small desk prints are often the items of choice.  I have just launched mini storyboards for the upcoming season and have to say for a little extra money the are well worth considering as an alternative gift. They even come with a display easel! Information on these storyboards can be found on my main website under “specials”.

A close call

We just managed to complete this session before the rain came. Good job too as this family had travelled up from Connecticut for the shoot! Despite the gathering rain clouds it really was great light for photographs and I very much enjoyed my time with these kids.

A special story, please read.

It was a privilege to meet these lovely sisters yesterday and capture some special moments on camera. The youngest sister has a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma and is just beginning her treatment to battle this disease. Friends and members of our local community came together last week at a fundraising  event.  The fund is intended to offset some of the cost involved in her treatment and remains open to those who would still like to place a donation. Please click here for more information.
