Sound Asleep

When this lovely newborn girl came to visit for her newborn portraits she slept quite peacefully for almost the entire session. There was one brief moment when she opened one eye! I always love working on a few mother baby moments as part of the shoot. Some Moms do not feel they are completely got together so soon after giving birth but its never about having to look straight into the camera lens and pose it’s about spending some quite minutes up close with your precious bundle. I think some of my favorite portraits of from these set ups.

Dressing Up or Dressing Down?

Just playing catch up with the blog once more! Here’s one from a little while ago. The girls came perfectly dressed for the chilly afternoon with great colors and textures in their outfits.

Dressing for the session is something many clients like to give some thought to. We always send out general advice once a session is booked. Our guidleines focus on classic simplicity but really many styles can work. Whether it be modern or classic, solid colors or some patterns, what you wear should be what you feel good in and what you want to see yourself or your children in when the portraits are on display. Not that interested in dressing up? That’s fine too. Some of my clients just want their children to be photographed in their everyday playclothes in order to capture a slice of their life.

Setting Records

When HS seniors come along for a portrait session I always suggest they bring something along or plan one outfit that refelects a hobby or sport that’s important to them. I’m sure you can guess where this young man’s interest lies. From our conversation during the session it was very clear that he’s very dedicated to both his studies and his Varsity sport.  I want to congratulate him and his high school Varsity basketball team for yesterday winning the Clark University 2013 Tournament. This is the first time in the 74 year history of the tournament that Littleton High School has won it. Way to go!

My favorite Fall guy

Here’s my favorite Fall guy.  Actually all the kids I meet are favorites for many different reasons. This young man gets the award for high energy and high style combined. I thought the handkerchief in the jacket pocket was a very classy addition to his outfit. This is the third time I have photographed this delightful boy. He always keeps me very busy.  At first it’s- No Jane I’m not hanging out with you. That’s followed by- OK I’m on for this but whatever you give me to explore I’m going to move it..EVERYWHERE…oh hey, is that a swing….LET”S DO IT! I laughed a lot but my smile was not as wide as his as you can see in the swing portrait!

Newborn session to share

I am playing catch up with a few of my sessions held later in 2012. Now were are well into the new year I just want to send belated new years greetings to my good clients and all following the blog. I wish you a wonderful 2013.

Here’s two of my favorite images from a newborn session in studio. The sister also came to visit for a few portraits along with Mom and Dad.  We had a few fleeting moments in front of the camera which is very normal with toddlers. I mean, why be in front of the camera when there’s better things to do!  I think the sibling portrait has a really lovely feel to it.

Hello Again

It was great to meet with this young man again for his high school senior portraits recently. I had first met his family for a late fall group portrait session a couple a years ago. I worked on some other portraits with him last year too. It was easy to pick up the conversation where we left off from last time. I like to talk a lot at my high school senior sessions. Actually I like to chat away at any session unless we are trying to keep a newborn asleep. For the teens it’s a good way to get them feeling relaxed and makes for an easy going session. If I don’t know anything about the teens who come and meet me I like to find out some information on what interests them before the session.

Choices, choices…

I am just about to start work preparing portraits for this family so I thought it an appropriate time to post some images from the session here on my blog. This happened to be a really lovely warm Fall evening which worked great for these young children. Mom had a very hard time choosing portraits as there were so many special images. Likewise I had a difficult time making my picks for the blog too!

High School Senior

Here’s a quick look back at a high school senior session held last month and I’m missing the Fall color already! This was a fun session with lots of portraits to choose from. I hope this young lady has  great final year at school.

We are now right into winter landscapes and temperatures. We will still be holding shortened outdoor sessions as long as temperatures hold up enough to be out in nature without feeling too cold. Outfits need to be planned for the weather though!

Dodging The Raindrops

It was touch and go whether this session would take place. The ground was still wet from earlier rain and the heavy clouds still hung around. However it all worked out. We saved sitting in the grass until as late as possible and the clouds actually helped the Fall colors pop. Fun shoot with a fun family!
