Mini Sessions Through April

We’re extending the special studio mini sessions through April. Quite a few of you who booked have needed to reschedule due to kids being ill. We understand. Sometimes early Spring is worse than Winter for sniffles and fevers. In addition, this lengthy cold snap means we don’t plan to be outside for sessions in the near future.  With all that in mind we figured it was a good idea to extend the offer. Mini session details can be found on the main website under specials.

Testing, Testing…….

We added a new backdrop at the studio this week and here are some test portraits. The backdrop is very subtle here as we are using a shallow depth of field but even when the pattern shows through it looks good.  It’s a nice alternative to plain backgrounds that I still love to use. Don’t forget we are currently offering mini shoots at the studio. A girl dressed in a dark or light plain colored dress or a boy in jeans and a black or white shirt would make for some classic style portraits using this set up. Does classic make you think of formal photography? I certainly like to create a more serene feel to some of my images but it can be about fun too. What got the laugh here? I tripped over my stool!

March Mini Sessions

We are offering mini sessions at the studio during the month of March. These short 30 minute shoots are best for individual child and baby portraits or sibling  images.  The session fee is $65 and a 10% discount is available on wall portraits. The sessions are offered primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We may be able to accommodate some bookings on other weekdays. These special sessions are not available at the weekends.  Please visit the website “specials”  for details and contact the studio if you are interested in scheduling a session.

Vermont with the wide angle lens

On the trail, Quechee, Vermont

Marshland Inn at Qeuchee, Vermont

These portraits were taken with a 16-35mm wide angle lens. It’s not a piece of glass that I use very often in portrait work as I’ll always opt for other lenses first. In mid December we went up to Vermont and in an attempt to make friends with my 16-35mm I left all my other lenses at home. It turned very cold whilst we were there and mindful of not subjecting the kids to too much of the camera the shoot time was short. Here’s a couple from then.

A New Year and New Blogging

We’re changing our blog a little this year. We have decided to do more personal and artistic photography in 2011 and plan to share some of this in our blog. In addition selections from baby, child and family sessions will be shown in themed groupings so they’ll no longer be a continual stream of individual session images.

So I’m kicking off the new year with a few from over Christmas. Having booked studio sessions right up to the day before Christmas Eve I  traded the camera with the fancy lenses for the one on the phone (ashamed to admit this) over the holiday season. However I did pick up my main camera on Christmas Eve. I love the holidays. For us here it’s all about the kids, cooking, and carols. I love deep reds and always deck my table out with gold, red and green on Xmas Eve. The portrait of my daughter was taken whilst she was tracking Santa on the computer. (When Santa gets to Argentina on the NORAD map we know it’s time to get ready for bed!) Our kids also surprised us with a carol concert.  I also included a couple of images from the garden before we were completely buried in the white stuff!

Newborn In Studio

I was glad we could squeeze in this newborn session the day before Christmas Eve. This beautiful little baby girl was just two weeks old. At holiday time children show us the joy of the season in many ways. What could be more joyful than the arrival of a new baby. I hope this family had a wonderful Christmas together.

We have been taking a break from the studio this past week so we can spend this special time with our kids. Mike and I worked hard to get holiday orders to people right up to Christmas Eve and we are back now preparing outstanding proof galleries and working on print orders. For those families waiting on orders or galleries we will be in contact early in the new year.

We would like to send our clients our very best wishes for 2011. We look forward to seeing some of you again for your portraits in the new year.

Winter Family Outdoor Shoot

We had a temperature near zero at the time of this session and had to wrap up in coats and scarves in between shots but it was well worth it. Im starting to really like early Winter outdoor light. This was a fun shoot with a great family. After the session it was their main mission to find a cafe for a very hot drink. Hope their mission was accomplished!

The Unplanned Moments

Here’s a snapshot of a newborn/family shoot from last week. I like to work on specific baby poses for newborn sessions but sometimes there are unplanned moments that make the most intimate special portraits. The first one is just this. I love this image!

It was great seeing this family again. I photographed the eldest boy when he was a newborn. He’s now growing up into one supercute energetic guy. His little brother was not on for sleeping during this session. I guess there was too much going on to interest him. I think these two brothers are going to form quite a partnership!

Six Week Old In Studio

This lovely six week old boy was a visitor to my studio last week. Although we couldn’t focus on the typical newborn shots ( first two weeks of life) it was still a great chance to capture some memories. He was awake for the whole session and showed himself to be a very mellow little guy!
