This was an early spring session in the studio, this family visited with a delightful two week old newborn. We managed to get some nice interaction shots whilst baby was awake and then some serene sleeping shots after a little feed. For a change the images showcased in this blog entry are a couple of the prints ordered from the session, as a typical example of what the finished portraits look like. Shown here is a 20×10″ storyboard which is one of the studio’s most popular products. It works well with newborn portraits where face, full body, and a details shot can all be combined into a single image. The other image is a very popular 14×11″ digital matte, here the actual inside image is 11×8″ with a white border. It is hard backed with a special coating which means it can be mounted directly in a frame with no protective glass required – no more annoying reflections detracting from the portrait! One of the most satisfying parts of portrait photography is knowing these lovely images will be hanging on a wall provoking memories for years to come.

This lovely family came in to the studio for portraits to mark the traditional Korean 100th day celebration.   As it turns out the 3 month stage is a great age for baby portraits, they can often lift their head at this age and will be alert for most of the session. This 100th day turned out to be a great day for portraits!

Brothers in the studio

Boston baby photographs

I’d taken portraits of this young boy previously as a newborn, now he brought in his new baby brother. It’s always special to capture those very first interactions between new siblings, and we also had some lovely timeless images of baby alone and mother and baby – a great session!

Newborn in Studio

Here we are into November and one thing is always the same at this time of year. I get very backdated with my blog. I’m taking a quick break from print work to post some images from a newborn session in studio. We keep our style very simple for these sessions, with minimal props. The use of a textured blanket for posing may be the only item. One of my favorite parts of these sessions is moments mother and baby share as can be seen  here.

In Studio

Just playing catch up here with some studio sessions from earlier in the Summer. Just had to blog a couple from this Saturday morning session. Such a lovely easy going family and lots of smiles from the youngest little guy!

Mixing It Up

Here’s a few selections from a recent studio session for a high school senior. It was hard to pick out portraits for the blog because I had so many favorites. I think his Mom did too! The one good thing about studio is we can mix it up a bit with casual outdoor, formal indoor and as well as working on  some themed images which is great for musicians and sports students. It was a pleasure to photograph this young man and learn about his interests and college plans. I was very impressed with his dedication to his studies and music and I wish him all the very best for his final year at school.

8 Month Old In Studio

Here’s a beautiful little girl. Love the smile in the third image.  I photographed her sister at exactly at the same age @ 8 months old and it’s was a delight to see the family back in studio again. Loved  the cream dress here. Sometimes some dresses can look fussy on babies particularly if there’s lots of bows and the fabric is stiff. This one was simple in design, with soft pleated fabric to give some added texture and detail.  Perfect for portraits!

Newborn/family session

Well here I am in my office today preparing a proof gallery from a recent outside session. I feel like I’ve been looking at a lot of grass in portraits recently so for a change of scene, here’s a few from one of my newborn family sessions held at the studio. This was a return visit for this family as I had photographed the little girl when she was just a couple of weeks old. My how time moves on! It was a fun session!

Sound Asleep

When this lovely newborn girl came to visit for her newborn portraits she slept quite peacefully for almost the entire session. There was one brief moment when she opened one eye! I always love working on a few mother baby moments as part of the shoot. Some Moms do not feel they are completely got together so soon after giving birth but its never about having to look straight into the camera lens and pose it’s about spending some quite minutes up close with your precious bundle. I think some of my favorite portraits of from these set ups.

Setting Records

When HS seniors come along for a portrait session I always suggest they bring something along or plan one outfit that refelects a hobby or sport that’s important to them. I’m sure you can guess where this young man’s interest lies. From our conversation during the session it was very clear that he’s very dedicated to both his studies and his Varsity sport.  I want to congratulate him and his high school Varsity basketball team for yesterday winning the Clark University 2013 Tournament. This is the first time in the 74 year history of the tournament that Littleton High School has won it. Way to go!
