In luck with the light.

It was a pleasure to meet this young lady recently. I photographed her older sister previously. We had some fantastic evening light for the session in a couple of locations, pure gold light for the golden hour. The golden hour is when there light is at it’s best for photos. Sometimes though the golden hour is a short 15 minutes, depending on the time of year. Often the light is not that golden either. Cooler evenings make the light seem more blue and cold. You just have to go with what nature deals you. We got dealt a very good hand for this particular evening!  I had quite a few favorites from this shoot and it was tough to select for the blog. I wish her the very best for college next year.

It’s all in the location.

This was a session every photographer would rather avoid. Nothing to do with the family who were wonderful. In fact the girl was one of the best almost 3 year old’s I have photographed. The problem was the weather. We were happily working our way through the session when a thunderstorm popped up out of nowhere. We had to relocate to two different locations until we got enough distance from the storm to complete the shoot. All ended well and we have some gorgeous portraits. Thank you to the family for being most accommodating and very relaxed about  the unforeseen circumstances!

Senior Season

It’s really nice to be in full swing with high school senior sessions this month. I love talking to the little ones, I really do! However now and then it makes a wonderful change to have some adult talk with those in front of the camera. This girl was one such person with some rather terrific portraits to go with the conversation!

Summer Session

This family was so relaxed and easy going. It made the whole session fun for everyone including me and we created some memorable portraits for the family to cherish.

Together Time and Solo Moments

Such a fun session with these children. We got a great mix of group shots with all the children together and also some individual candid moments.  When you put them together they made such a memorable collection of images. We’ve just finished preparing some special portraits from the shoot. Can’t wait to get them back from the lab. I think they are going to look wonderful.

The Unplanned Moments

Once again, it was an absolute pleasure sharing some camera time with these two children. This was my third visit to take their photographs. My photo time with this girl often involves afternoon tea. She brought her friend along this time who was rather partial to waffles. For the final image, I had just got myself ready to take a shot of  ( on my stomach on the sidewalk to be specific) when the school bus came round the corner. Perfect timing! For this boy. active or action shots are usually on the agenda. The school bus was a bonus. He looks like he’s winning the race.

Bon Voyage

I hope this family’s move to a new place is going well. The family wants to leave viewing their proofs until all the hustle and bustle of moving is done. That gives me some extra time to get the proofs ready.  Although the gallery is a work in progress,  the images are looking great. There are some lovely portraits of the children and I thought it would be nice to preview a couple of them ahead of viewing.

In The Pink

Just looking back to a Fall 2011 session and sharing a couple of portraits here on my blog. It was a pleasure photographing these siblings.  It was great to see some dressy outfits too. The pink dress this little girl wore really was an ideal choice. It looked dressy and timeless but was simple enough to be able to move around in. I do not recommend pink when Fall color is at it’s peak of reds and oranges but once we have moved on to the dusty browns and faded yellows of late Fall ( I actually prefer these colors) pink can really work again!

Looking Back

Still blogging from late last season. I generally suggest outdoor sesion for toddlers. The 18 month to 3 year age is a very busy time and children this age love to be on the move. I photographed this lovely boy when he was just 4 months.  Now on the march at 18 months he gave me quite the workout. I brought along an antique firetruck for this little guy to ride on . Not that he needed wheels to be speedy! He came along with a very dapper hat. In in all the props made for some perfect portraits!

Aaah the light! Part 2

Started this Fall session with light rain and heavy clouds and I even wondered for the first half hour whether I would get any good light to do my work.  Then out of nowhere we got a sunset and I got a family portrait which I can easily say is one of my absolute favorites ever. This family was perfect company so fun and easy going. Still playing catch up with my blogging. I am posting this session online today with snow on the ground outside my window. Makes me feel all warm just looking at all these Fall colors!
