A Perfect Day

It really was a perfect Saturday yesterday. After enjoying my son’s win in his soccer game I drove a bit further afield for my photo session. All the Spring trees and flowers were in bloom on the scenic drive through Sudbury and Wayland to Natick. Everything looked picture perfect. I then had the pleasure of taking this family’s photographs. This baby was such a little treasure and so content with me and the camera on the scene.  When she fell asleep I just had to stop a bit longer for some extra special shots. Thanks to this family for welcoming me into their house to capture some family memories.

What a busy session it was yesterday. It was great meeting the two families and we had the most fantastic weather for our session.  My title says it all really. It was all about the boys, the brothers and the cousins together! One of the families was visiting from the West Coast. I wish them a great vacation!

Spring Sessions

Spring Flowers

“April showers bring May flowers….” I am SO looking forward for this saying to ring true. Spring feels a little late this year. I’ve been buying my Spring flowers (and photographing them of course) in the hope the warmer temperatures will arrive sooner!

Regardless of the dreary weather my session schedule is filling up. I am excited to get back outside with the camera with meet with returning clients and new folks too. As the scenery is still looking a little Wintry some people have opted to move their session a little later into the season. If you are considering scheduling a Spring Session please call early as available sessions will fill.

Presentation For The Boston West Photographic Society

I very much enjoyed giving a talk and presentation of my work to The Boston West Photographic Society last night. It was great to meet so many dedicated photographers and I would like to thank them for being an enthusiastic audience and making me feel very welcome. Additional thanks also to Mike and Ian for arranging the talk and providing display equipment. Wishing everyone all the best in their future photographic projects.

PPAM print competition

I recently entered the the 2008 Professional Photographers of Massachusetts print competition and was thrilled to receive the “Judge’s Favorite” rosette for this image, it is one of my favorites too!

I was also honored to have the photograph (below) entitled “School Rush Hour” selected for a blue ribbon merit award:

I’m now planning some images for future competition entries and will be looking for models in the spring/summer to take part in concept shoots. I’ll be posting about this in the near future. If you have kids or teens who may be interested in taking part in such a session please contact me.

Photo display at the Java Room Cafe

Being a latte addict myself I’d like to let you know about a great place in Chelmsford – The Java Room Cafe. They serve coffee of course and a range of food but beyond that it also doubles as a happening place at night with late opening featuring live music and a wine and cocktail bar! From now until April 6th some of my work is on display there. On the evening of March 6th I’ll be at the cafe from 7-9pm with some friends and clients. I’d be delighted to meet people, share a drink and chat about my work.  For anyone interested there will be an extra bonus for anyone who books a session on the night too! ….Looking forward to seeing old friends and new faces on the 6th!

A word about gallery wraps…

A few days ago I was at home hanging a canvas of my kids. This got me thinking that it might be useful to show you what a canvas gallery wrap looks like. For some of you the word canvas and photograph conjures up the idea of something traditional or old fashioned that may not be to your taste. However gallery wraps are far from traditional. The canvas is stretched around a wooden frame and is ready to hang directly on the wall. They are very modern, look great in both color and black and white and come in a variety of sizes. The smaller sizes make wonderful special occasion gifts or for hanging in small wall spaces. Larger wraps can be a great focal centerpiece in a room.

Here’s a peek at one ordered by one of my clients. This image looked fabulous as a gallery wrap.

Ringing In The New Year

It’s been a whole month since my last post largely due to it being a very busy holiday season for the business. I was still working  last minute print requests several days before Christmas and my own family Christmas gifts got mailed very late! Oops!

I would like to wish all my clients a very happy New Year and thank them for their business last year. Many of my clients are planning future sessions with me which is very rewarding to hear and I look forward to that.

This post Christmas period and all the snowy weather here in Massachusetts gives me the time to really develop the business. Plans for 2008 include more print choices, storyboard designs, and the introduction of coffee table books and session albums. I will also continue to scout out great new locations for the Spring.

I am excited to announce that my work will be exhibited locally starting in late February. I am also expecting to be published in a best selling child photography book this spring. Look out for details about this nearer the time.
