Information on Baby Sessions
Baby sessions are offered at the studio for all babies up to 12 months. Once a child can sit well a session can also take place outside in the warmer months. However, as we shoot just before sundown, parents should consider whether this is a settled time for their child. Studio sessions can be arranged for any time through the day.
A newborn session must take place in the first two weeks of life, if possible within a few days of birth. This is the time we can work on curled up sleeping poses, individual portraits and details. We look toward bringing parents into some of the portraits too. The session requires extra time. Please note that much time is taken up with Mom nursing and settling baby. Portraits are taken in short sequences at the time the baby is calm or asleep. Older siblings may be included for some of the photographs at the start of the session. We recommend arrangements are made for one parent or helper to take the siblings home or to our nearby park whilst we work with Mom on the newborn mages. When sibling or family portraits are part of the shoot the time spent on individual newborn images is shortened. Please note these sessions are only offered for newborns with parents and siblings. Due to time constraints we regret that extended family members cannot be included in the portrait session.
We understand that it’s not always possible to plan a session in those first few days. It is possible to photograph beyond the first two weeks but parents need to be aware of the differences and limitations.
At 5-6 weeks babies tend to stretch out and startle easily. We will take some individual portraits but generally require parents to hold baby for most of the shots. In light of this there is quite a focus on parent-baby interaction. Baby acne is also prevalent at this stage too, but this can be retouched.
Other ideal milestones before the first birthday are as follows:
4 – 4.5 months ……. when baby holds head up comfortably when lying on stomach
6 – 8 months ………. when sitting easily without support and before crawling starts
Once again parents have the option of parent/baby photos as part of the session.
