Senior Season

It’s really nice to be in full swing with high school senior sessions this month. I love talking to the little ones, I really do! However now and then it makes a wonderful change to have some adult talk with those in front of the camera. This girl was one such person with some rather terrific portraits to go with the conversation!

Wine Country, California

Sorry for the lack of recent posts on the blog, we just came back from California where we had a road trip vacation combined with a family wedding – can’t beat that! After all the driving and hectic schedule of a wedding it was great to round off the vacation in the Californian wine country. We stayed at an amazing house in Sebastopol with a winery and tasting rooms just a ten minute walk down the most picturesque lane you could imagine. All the photos above are at the house and its grounds, also featuring “King” – the adorable dog of the owner who enjoyed mixing with guests. It was such a perfect setting we couldn’t resist getting our  daughter’s flower-girl dress on once more for a brief evening portrait session.

de Young museum, San Francisco

On our last day in California last week  we had fun taking photographs in and around the de Young art museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate park. The building itself is an interesting design by the same architect who designed China’s Olympic Bird’s Nest stadium, as our architecture-mad son was quick to point out. It is clad in copper with lots of circular designs and perforations, which is echoed in the large display in the main lobby. In time the brown copper walls will turn green with age to blend in fully with the park setting.

Sound Asleep

This is the first newborn baby to visit my studio and sleep the entire session. This beautiful baby girl opened one eye just a tiny bit for a couple of seconds and that was it! It was great to also see her brother who I had also photographed as a newborn. He is now a busy young toddler and preferred some action down at the park to camera time. Quite understandable!  I just loved working on these proofs. I prepared the viewing gallery ahead of time, as I could not keep my myself away from the images.

Summer Session

This family was so relaxed and easy going. It made the whole session fun for everyone including me and we created some memorable portraits for the family to cherish.

Newborn Session To Share

This was a beautiful session. My pick for the blog happens to be all sleeping poses but this newborn girl was quite awake for some of the session. The result was a great mix of images. Mom and Dad made some great wall portrait choices. The trio of standouts they selected looked really stunning when they came back from the lab!

Together Time and Solo Moments

Such a fun session with these children. We got a great mix of group shots with all the children together and also some individual candid moments.  When you put them together they made such a memorable collection of images. We’ve just finished preparing some special portraits from the shoot. Can’t wait to get them back from the lab. I think they are going to look wonderful.

The Unplanned Moments

Once again, it was an absolute pleasure sharing some camera time with these two children. This was my third visit to take their photographs. My photo time with this girl often involves afternoon tea. She brought her friend along this time who was rather partial to waffles. For the final image, I had just got myself ready to take a shot of  ( on my stomach on the sidewalk to be specific) when the school bus came round the corner. Perfect timing! For this boy. active or action shots are usually on the agenda. The school bus was a bonus. He looks like he’s winning the race.

Bon Voyage

I hope this family’s move to a new place is going well. The family wants to leave viewing their proofs until all the hustle and bustle of moving is done. That gives me some extra time to get the proofs ready.  Although the gallery is a work in progress,  the images are looking great. There are some lovely portraits of the children and I thought it would be nice to preview a couple of them ahead of viewing.

Full Of Smiles

This was one of my favorite in studio family/baby session so far this year. This lovely girl deserves the award for happiest visitor to come see me. I got all smiles from her even after a very short nap! The gallery wraps and coffee table book I designed for the family looked wonderful upon return from the lab. I’m sure they will look even better on display at home.
